In Short: The Canon imagePROGRAF W7250 and W7200 are the top performing large format printers in their respective class. The W7250 and W7200 are big and heavy like all large-format printers but once unpacked, setting up each printer and installing the six ink cartridges was very easy. The printer stand ships in a separate box and includes the hardware needed to secure it to the printer. The software driver installation was simple and straightforward due to the advanced software provided by Canon for both Windows and Mac OS. Several third party software RIP’s are available for more advanced users requiring PS compatibility. The W7250 and W7200 are both network ready and include an internal Ethernet 10/100base-TX as well as USB interface. Printing status, print job management, and print job queue can be monitored remotely with Canon’s NetSpot Console and JobMonitor software. The Canon W7200’s combine true 1200x1200 DPI color with the fastest six color ink print engine on the market. The result is true photo quality output at high speed. The W7200 and W7250 each dedicate a whopping 1,280 super-fine nozzles per color for a total of 7,680 nozzles. That’s more than ten times the nozzles of an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 and over twenty times more than the HP Designjet 1050c. The combination of high-density nozzles and bi-directional printing allow these printers to print 200% to 800% faster than their competitors in high quality mode. Color images printed on the W7200s look amazingly accurate and fills look extremely smooth even in the standard mode. In the high-quality mode, line art and very small type looks sharp due to Canon’s MicroFine Droplet Technology. The Canon W7200 can produce a 36” x 48” print in 2 min. 14 seconds and the W7250 can produce a 24” x 36” print in less than 2 minutes. The Canon W7200 and W7250 are designed to feed a wide variety of paper stock from the built-in auto-roll feeder or you can load individual cut-sheets as small as 8.5” x 11”. The Canon W7200 can accommodate paper as wide as 36” and the W7250 can feed up to 24” wide rolls. Both models use high capacity ink tanks for less user intervention and lower operating costs.
The Bottom Line: The Canon imagePROGRAF W7250 and W7200 are the top performing large format printers in their respective class. The W7250 and W7200 are network ready and ideal for printing true photo quality on a wide variety of large format media. The W7200s are ideal for any graphics intensive application such as proofing, mock-ups, or any application requiring large format photo quality. Both versions ship with a full set of supplies, 64MB, and include one-year on-site service. The Canon W7200 and W7250 work very well with the Mac OS or Windows environment without any additional RIP software.
