In Short: The Minolta-QMS 2300 DeskLaser is a color laser printer about half the size and weight of most business class models. The Minolta 2300 DeskLaser can print up to 18ppm in black and white and up to 4ppm in color. This printer is slow compared to most color lasers. The 2300 DL can print at up to 2400 x 600 dpi and includes 32MB RAM, parallel, USB, Ethernet 100 Base T, and a 200 sheet multi-purpose tray. An additional 500 sheet feeder, and auto-duplex unit are options. The print quality is ok for most business applications. Even at the best setting, however, the output looks polarized due to the limited color palette. Some PostScript intensive applications or files may not print correctly due to the printer's lack of PostScript compatibility. This may include certain Adobe Acrobat and PageMaker files. The black text looks good. The replacement supplies are conveniently accessible from the front of the printer. Like most other personal lasers, the 2300 DeskLaser has a one-year exchange warranty instead of an on-site warranty. The standard 200-sheet multi purpose tray can handle a variety of paper stocks up to 60-lb. cover (163g/m2).
The Bottom Line: The Minolta-QMS 2300 DeskLaser is the least expensive color laser currently available. The printer is much slower compared to most business class color lasers, but not slower than other personal color lasers. A relatively high cost per page and limited paper handling make this printer better suited for personal or low volume use. The print quality is also not as good as other printers like the 2350 EN. This printer works in the Window environments ONLY. This printer requires Windows OS to run and will not work with the Mac OS.
