In Short: The Xerox Phaser 6250 picks up where the 6200 left off as the top performing desktop color laser printer. The new 6250 utilizes the fastest color engine available coupled with a very powerful 700 MHz processor. The printer was relatively easy to set up once it was unpacked. The four standard capacity toners, that are included, install easily in the top rear of the printer and the main imaging unit slides down into the machine under a top hatch. Installing the Xerox 6250 printer on a network proved to be the easiest ever as the printer practically installs itself. The 6250 zips along at an amazing 26 pages per minute in full color or black & white. All configurations run Adobe PostScript 3, and share all the nifty features of their predecessors like draft mode and the ability to print monochrome even if one or all of the color toners are empty. The 6250B ships standard with 128 MB RAM. The 6250N has 256MB, also adds high resolution, and Ethernet 100 base TX. The 6250DP adds the auto-duplex for automated two-sided printing. The 6250DT comes with 512MB and also adds a second 500 sheet feeder. The 6250DX includes a 20 GB internal hard disk and yet a third 500 sheet feeder. The 6250B produces good looking 2400 x 600 dpi output. The 6250N print looks better at 2400 x 600 dpi in its Photo Mode. Overall, the 6250 is currently the new top performing color laser printer by a wide margin in many cases.
The Bottom Line: The Xerox Phaser 6250 is very fast and reliable. The 6250N is all the printer most networks need with a duty cycle of 100,000 pages per month and 26 PPM. The 6250DP adds two sided printing for paper conservation and long print jobs. This printer works very well in the Mac OS, UNIX, or the Windows environment. The Xerox 6250 earns our editor's choice as the top performing desktop color laser printer.
