In Short: The new Phaser 6300 and 6350 series from Xerox pick up where the 6250 left off as the top performing desktop color laser printers. The new 6350 utilizes the fastest desktop color engine available along with a beefy 800 MHz processor. The 6300 uses the same controller and super fast processor as the 6350, but on a 26PPM engine as opposed to the 36PPM engine. The 6300 also has a slightly higher cost per page than the 6350 by our calculations. The printer is easy to set up once unpacked. The four standard capacity toners that are included install easily in the top rear of the printer and the main imaging unit slides down into the machine under a top hatch. Installing the Xerox 6350 and 6300 printers on a network was very simple as the printer installation software from Xerox took over. The printer’s oversized front panel is simple to navigate and displays the toner levels continuously. The 6350 was the fastest color laser in all of our clocked tests with the 6300 usually coming in second. The print quality overall is good enough for most all office applications though it ranks just above the middle of the pack among current color laser printer models. The standard configurations include a 550-sheet feeder that can handle paper up to 163 g/m2, and a 150-sheet capacity MP feeder that can feed paper as heavy as 80lb cover stock, (216 g/m2). All configurations include at least 256MB, Adobe PostScript 3, PCL5c, USB 2.0, Ethernet 10/100Base TX, and share all the nifty features of their predecessors like draft mode and the ability to print monochrome even if one or all of the color toners are empty. The 6300DN and all 6350 configurations also include auto-duplex for automated two-sided printing. The 6350DT comes with 512MB and has a second 550-sheet feeder. The 6350DX includes an internal hard disk and yet a third 550-sheet feeder. Overall, the new Xerox 6350 and 6300 series are currently the best performing desktop color laser printers we have ever tested. In many cases by a wide margin.

The Bottom Line: The Xerox Phaser 6350 is the fastest desktop color laser printers we have tested to date. The 6350 with a duty cycle of 120,000 pages per month and 36PPM is the new boss as far as network color lasers go. The 6300 is not far behind with a 26PPM engine and a duty cycle of 100,000 pages per month. All configurations are network ready. These printers work very well in the Mac OS, UNIX, or the Windows environments. The Xerox 6350 and 6300 earn our editor's choice for best performance and reliability.
