In Short: The new Phaser 6360 series from Xerox is the top performing desktop color laser printer overall as of this writing. Xerox once again utilizes the fastest desktop color engine available for the 6360 along with a fast 1GHz processor. At 42PPM color or black and white, the 6360 sped it’s way to the top of most of our speed tests. The printer is easy to set up once unpacked. The four standard capacity toners that are included install easily in the top rear of the printer and the main imaging unit slides down into the machine under a top hatch. Another improvement over the 6350 is the increased toner capacity, though the new 6360 has a higher cost per page than the 6350. Calculating the cost per page based on the 6360 standard capacity toners would make this the most expensive color laser to operate in this class. Installing the Xerox 6360 on a network was very simple as the Xerox printer installation software is very intuitive. The printer’s oversized front panel is simple to navigate and continuously displays the current toner levels along with menu information. The 6360 was the fastest color laser in all but two of our clocked tests primarily involving larger auto duplex jobs. The print quality overall looks professional and is more than adequate for most all office applications though it ranks just above the middle of the pack among current color laser printer models in that class. The 6360 series include a 550-sheet feeder that can handle paper up to 163 g/m2, and a 150-sheet capacity MP feeder that can feed paper as heavy as 80lb cover stock, (216 g/m2). All configurations include at least 256MB, Adobe PostScript 3, PCL5c, USB 2.0, Ethernet 10/100Base TX, and share all the nifty features of their predecessors like draft mode and the ability to print monochrome even if one or all of the color toners are empty. The 6360DN configuration also include auto-duplex for automated two-sided printing. The 6360DT comes with 512MB and has a second 550-sheet feeder. The 6360DX includes an internal hard disk and a third 550-sheet feeder.

The Bottom Line: The Xerox Phaser 6360 is a super fast desktop color laser printer with professional looking output. All configurations are network ready. These printers work very well in the Mac OS, UNIX, or the Windows environments. The Xerox 6360 earns our editor's choice for best overall performance.
