In Short: The new Xerox Phaser 7760 is the replacement for the very successful 7750 series. The Phaser 7760 is a large-format color laser printer aimed at the design and graphics market. Phaser 7760 is big and heavy, (200- 290 lb depending on the configuration), like most all tabloid size color lasers. Once it is unpacked, setting up the printer is very simple. Xerox ships this printer with all of it’s imaging units pre-installed leaving just the four high-capacity toners to install. The software driver install was even easier due to the very smart software provided by the manufacturer. The Phaser 7760 combines smooth and consistent color with fast processing and print engine speeds. The result is one of the best performing tabloid color laser printers we have tested. Color images printed on our 7760 look rich, and fills and gradients look very smooth. Printed line art and text look good. The Phaser 7760 has impressive performance and paper handling as well. This printer prints at a speed of 35 PPM in color and 45 PPM in black & white mode. The 800 MHz, processor RIPS through even large and especially complex multi-layered files quickly. The 7760DN comes with Adobe PostScript Level 3, 512 MB RAM, 1GB Ethernet, USB 2.0 port, 40 GB HD, auto-duplex, prints up to 11"x 17" 90lb cover stock, and has the ability to handle up to 12” x 18” paper through the MP feeder. The 7760GX configuration adds a 1500-sheet high capacity feeder and includes PhaserMatch 4.0 software. The 7760DX configuration increases paper-feeding capacity further with the 2500-sheet feeder. The 7760 printer uses long-life consumables, which means less user intervention.

The Bottom Line: The Phaser 7760 is one of the top performing large-format color laser printers available today. Aimed at the design and graphics market, the 7760 printers combine fast processing with above average print quality and paper handling. The 7760GX and DX are appropriate for any graphics intensive application or as a proofing device. All configurations ship with a full set of supplies. The 7760 works very well with the Mac OS, UNIX, or the Windows environment. For high performance and good overall print quality, the Xerox Phaser 7760 gets an "Editor's Choice" award.
