In Short: The HP LaserJet color MFP M775 series is Hewlett Packard’s tabloid color laser multi-function printer for the small office environment. The HP MFP M775 setup was straight forward for the most part. After adding the M775 to our network we were able to print and scan to folder. Scanning to email proved to be very challenging. The large touch screen display is a nice touch on top of what is basically a large network scanner placed on top of an M750dn printer. The supplies including the four toner-drum units and waste load from front of the machine for easy access.

The HP M775 is rated at print speeds up to 30ppm in color or mono but the actual throughput of the printer was below average for this group in our testing, especially when printing or copying two-sided documents.

The LaserJet MFP color M775 prints at a maximum resolution of 600dpi like the other models in this price-performance group of printers. However the 600dpi looks fine on B&W text and office documents. The prints we produced from our M775 generally had good color accuracy out of the box. Lighter colors and gradients are the areas where the output looks a bit grainy. The fast scanning speeds seem to be offset by the printer’s slower printing speeds such that the overall performance was average or below in most speed tests.

The HP M775dn MFP has one 250-sheet feeder and a 100-sheet MP tray. Three other configurations are available, the M775f, z, and z+, that max out the total paper feeders to five, but the 250-sheet maximum output capacity and max paper weight of 220g/m2, (only through the MP tray 1), are the biggest limitations of the paper handling. All configurations include fast Ethernet, PCL, PostScript3 emulation, and 1.5GB of RAM.

The Bottom Line: The Hewlett Packard MFP color M775 series is a color laser MFP for the small office that can scan, print, and copy up to 11x17 size paper. It produces good 600dpi color output that is adequate for most office applications and geared for low volume environments.  The M775 was the slowest printer in the group we tested but the scanner was not. Overall it’s not a bad printer, but the performance sure doesn’t live up to the price tag which is significantly higher than other better performing color MFPs we tested in this price range. The HP MFP color M775 we feel is an OK machine but not a great value. The HP MFP color M775 works well with most versions of Windows and most recent versions of Mac OS.
