|
In Short: The P8060cdn is the flagship large-format color laser printer from Kyocera which replaced their FS-C8650DN model. The newer P8060cdn combines excellent print quality with enhanced 1200x1200 DPI resolution, super-fast color printing, and best-in-class paper handling. As is the case with most Kyocera printers, the P8060cdn also boasts the lowest operating cost of all current large format color lasers in the industry for both monochrome and color printing. Setting up the printer was quick once it was unpacked but it does require two people as it is hefty, tipping the scales at 196lbs. Installation was also quick as Kyocera provides a straight forward install utility. The P8060cdn includes a large 9-inch color touch screen that we found to be very intuitive and works much like a tablet. The only supplies for the Kyocera P8060cdn are the four toner cartridges, CMYK, and a waste toner all of which load in the front of the printer. |

The Kyocera P8060cdn offers various print settings in addition to 1200 x 1200 DPI and a very fast heavy duty print engine that can handle a huge monthly volume if needed. The various print settings, color profiles, and PDLs combine to produce some of the best print quality we’ve seen even on heavy card stock. The color output was consistently the most accurate of the machines we tested without making any adjustments. It produced great looking color images and smooth gradients plus the best and most consistent grey scale we’ve seen. The overall print speeds were also very impressive on all documents including large complex files with multiple layers. This is a result of Kyocera combining a fast processor, 4GB RAM, 8GB SSD, and a 320GB internal HD, all of which are standard. The engine is rated at up to 60ppm for monochrome and 55ppm for color with a first page out speed of 3.8 seconds for black and 5.1 seconds for color. |

The paper handling was also very impressive. The P8060cdn has two standard feeders that can hold up to 500-sheets each. Tray one will hold letter or legal page sizes and tray two can accommodate multiple sizes up to 12x18”. The multi-purpose feeder located on the right side will hold up to 100-sheets and can feed paper sizes from index, (5.5 x 8.5”), up to a 12 x 48” banner. All input sources can support card stock up to 300gsm and we were blown away when this machine was able to actually auto-duplex even some heavy cover stock. Something we have not seen before from a printer in this range. Kyocera offers many paper handling options including additional paper feeders for a maximum input capacity of 7,150 sheets. Also available are multiple finishers including a 4,000 sheet finisher for stapling/ stacking/ hole punch and booklet finisher that will staple/ fold. Check out the spec sheet or talk to us to see what is possible. Other options include a wireless interface IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, a second Gigabit NIC, job separator, card authentication kit, and more. |

The Bottom Line: The Kyocera P8060cdn is a performance workhorse that excels overall. It has great print quality, speed, amazing paper handling, and the lowest cost of ownership of any printer in this class. It produced consistently outstanding print quality in our testing and was at or very near the top in all speed tests. This model works well with Mac OS 10.5 or higher or Windows 7/8/8.1/10/Vista/Server 2008/R2/Server 2012/R2, and also supports Apple air-print, Google cloud print, and Kyocera mobile print. The combination of great print quality, paper handling, speed, and lowest cost per print make this Kyocera P8060cdn an easy editor’s choice. |
