In Short: The new Phaser 6700 series replaces the 6360 which was a top performing color laser for several years. The 6700 Xerox incorporates a new faster desktop color engine along with a fast 1.25 GHz processor to maximize performance. At 47 PPM color or black and white, the 6700 did fair in most of our speed tests though warm up time was the slowest. The printer is easy to set up once unpacked. The four standard toners that are included install easily in the front of the printer along with all four imaging units. Installing the Xerox 6700 on a network went smoothly as the Xerox printer installation software made it very easy. Though the new 6700 has a stated resolution of up to 2400x1200, the higher resolution did not seem to translate into better print quality. The end result still appears grainy to us and overall not as good as competing models or higher end models from Xerox, ranking it near the bottom of the pack among the current crop of color lasers. However the print quality is ultimately more than adequate for most office applications. Calculating the cost per page even based on the 6700 high capacity toners would make this the most expensive color laser to operate in this high speed class. The only real improvement over the previous model we see is the touch screen front panel which resembles a smart phone and is straight forward to navigate. The 6700 series include a 550-sheet feeder and a 150-sheet capacity MP feeder that can feed paper as heavy as 80lb cover stock, (220 g/m2). All configurations include 1GB, Adobe PostScript 3, PCL5c, USB 2.0, Ethernet 10/100/1000BaseT. The 6700DN configuration also include auto-duplex for automated two-sided printing. The 6700DT adds a second 550-sheet feeder while the 6700DX adds an 1100-sheet feeder and the internal hard disk. The Bottom Line: The Xerox Phaser 6700 is a fast desktop color laser printer with average paper handling and print quality. Unfortunately it also claims the highest operating cost in it’s class currently. All configurations are network ready. These printers will work in the Mac OS, UNIX, or the Windows environments.
