In Short: The new OKI C8800n is the latest large format color page printer from this manufacturer and has created a class of its own. The 8800n is the smallest tabloid color page printer available from any manufacturer and Is the first we have ever seen that Is small enough to fit on your desk. OKI provides top notch documentation so that unpacking and printer set up went smoothly. Setting the printer up on our network also proved to be quick and painless. OKI provides tech support which is good to know just in case. With color print speeds up to 26 ppm letter size/ 32 ppm black & white and a 500 MHz processor, this printer was quick. The C8800n print quality was good all around. The C8800n produced good looking color and crisp black text even on heavier paper. The printer can handle paper up to 11 x 17 and as heavy as 32lb. bond, (120g/m2), from the lower feeder and it can handle up to 74lb. cover, (203 g/m2), from the MP tray. Using the optional lower tray the printer can handle paper up to 69lb cover, (176g/m2). Most large format color lasers claim to handle longer sheets of paper through their MP trays but OKI gets credit for actually selling the odd size paper needed. All versions ship with at least 256MB and a fast 500 MHz processor. The C8800dtn includes an additional lower paper tray, and auto-duplex unit. The C8800dn includes auto-duplex unit. An optional 40GB hard disk is available as well as RAM upgrades.

The Bottom Line: TThe new C8800 is by far the smallest tabloid color page printer available. This printer would be ideal for personal use or small office environment where the printer needs to fit on your desk. All the new OKI C8800 works well in any network environment including Windows XP and Mac OS. The speed is good and the print quality is above average. If you plan on printing In volume, however, we would suggest looking at a tabloid printer with a bigger duty cycle and lower operating costs. For any applications requiring low volume large format color printing from your desk, the OKI C8800n may be the best solution out there.
